The 3rd annual meeting of the Association for Adorno Studies was held March 7th and 8th, 2014 at University College Dublin in Ireland. The meeting was convened at the beautiful Newman House, and was officially opened with remarks by host Brian O’Connor, Martin Shuster, and Kathy Kiloh. The meeting was attended by conference participants from the United States of America, Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Egypt. Papers and the discussions that followed them were engaging and of a high caliber. Our first day concluded with an “author meets critics panel,” at which Fabian Freyenhagen discussed his newly published book Adorno’s Practical Philosophy: Living Less Wrongly (Cambridge UP, 2013) with Brian O’Connor, Roger Foster, and Martin Shuster. The meeting concluded on the second day with a round table discussion that focused on seeing what insights Adorno’s thought might offer to the contemporary state of academia.
Plans for next year’s meeting of the Association were discussed, with New York or a second year in Europe high on the list of possible locations. The location for next year’s meeting will be announced on this site early in the summer.
On behalf of all the members of the Association, we’d like to extend a grateful thank you to Brian O’Connor for his work in organizing a wonderful and productive meeting in Dublin, and for arranging for the lovely Spring weather.
Thanks to Robson Loureiro for the photos.
